Weekends are a popular time to go see the latest buzzy movie, but tickets can be costly.
Those looking to save money while indulging in some evening entertainment may want to make use of deals and discounts at local movie theatres.
As for the cheapest day of the week to see a movie, opt for a weekday instead of a weekend.
Both Cineplex and Landmark Cinemas offer discounts on Tuesday screenings.
Landmark Cinemas offers a "Reel Deal Tuesday" discount on movie tickets up to 40 per cent off.
Cineplex screenings are the same discounted price for both general admission, senior, and children tickets but vary between types of screenings.
A ticket for a standard screening will cost $8.99 on a Tuesday versus $14.50 for regular general admission. Similarly, a 3D screening costs $11.99 on a Tuesday compared to a general admission ticket on another day, which will cost $17.50. VIP 3D and D-Box screenings cost around five dollars less on a Tuesday too.
Cineplex also has a Family Favourites program which screens select movies every Saturday morning for $2.99.
Independent Vancouver movie theatres
Rio Theatre
The Rio Theatre has a variety of films and cheap deals.
Though ticket prices vary by film, late-night screenings and double features are the cheapest time to see a movie.
Showtimes at 11 p.m. have a "Late Night Date Night" two-for-one deal which costs $11.42 - the same price of a regular admission ticket.
The theatre also occasionally shows double features or back-to-back movies which means locals can watch two movies for $16.42 instead of $22.84 (the price of two regular admission tickets).
Students get a discount on movies as well and can get in for $8.42 with a valid student ID.
A Rio Theatre rep tells V.I.A. that because there is no reserve seating for movies, people should prepare to wait in line.
Dunbar Theatre
Dunbar Theatre has a "Cheap Tuesday" deal which offers all-day $8.50 admission for everyone.
Matinee screenings are a dollar cheaper too. A regular admission ticket costs $11.99 during the day and $12.99 in the evening. A 3D ticket costs $3 more.
Students get a $1 discount with a valid student ID.
The theatre is busiest on Fridays and weekends during the 7 p.m. showtime, according to a Dunbar Theatre rep.
The festival-style cinema, which hosts the annual Vancouver International Film Festival, screens various movies.
A regular admission ticket to the theatre costs $15. Student tickets cost $5 less and senior tickets cost $2 less than regular admission.
General admission to this cinema costs $12 and a second consecutive movie costs an additional $6.
Tickets for students, with a valid student ID, and seniors over the age of 65 cost $2 less.
Other movie screenings
Those wanting to skip the latest releases can go see a scary movie in a morgue. The Vancouver Police Museum's Movies in the Morgue series screens horror hits inside a real morgue for only $15. Plus, the museum's exhibits will be open to explore an hour before the movie starts.
