Cycling Vancouver: The Union-Adanac Corridor

What you need to know before you go for a ride on one of Vancouver's busiest bike paths.

The Union-Adanac Corridor spans the distance between downtown Vancouver to Boundary Road in Burnaby. From it, you can access the Francis Union Bikeway.

The corridor travels down Union Street through the Strathcona area, eventually becoming Adanac. The corridor then continues until its end at Boundary Road.

For the most part, especially as Adanac, the corridor is residential. The street is comfortably wide, and it is very well travelled by cyclists – being one of the busiest bike paths in the city. It does cross several large streets, but every intersection has a dedicated crossing light.

Terrain-wise, there are some small hills but nothing fearsome.

The Union-Adanac Corridor is a safe comfortable way to traverse north-east Vancouver. It is also my preferred route when leaving the downtown area to the following neighbouring communities:

  • North Shore (via Second Narrows to the Seymour-area and Deep Cove)
  • Burnaby (including SFU)
  • Port Moody (via Barnet Highway)
  • Coquitlam (via Barnet Highway)
  • Belcarra/Anmore (via Barnety Highway)

Brian Lim likes to ride bikes (sometimes with his camera). He's a complete and consummate amateur - both in cycling and in photography, and says he doesn't take himself seriously - and neither should you. Lim wants to share his love of cycling, so please reach out if you want to talk! You'll find him on Instagram at @wheelsandwhisky.
