Couldn't help but notice the below photograph from James Wheeler in the Flickr Pool today. An intimate portrait of an impressive and proud bird, and it turns out that timing was a big factor in this shot happening at all.
In his caption, James mentions how he doesn't take a lot of bird photos, but it seems this particular heron wasn't in a rush to fly away like so many others, and allowed him to frame up and take a photo. It somehow feels safer knowing that this great bird is dutifully Guarding Vancouver.
