Family of life-sized animatronic giant pandas added to Vancouver's famed skinny building

Owners of Vancouver's famous Sam Kee Building in Chinatown have put a unique attraction inside the narrow space.

The owners of Vancouver's famous Jack Chow Building in Chinatown have found a way to put a unique attraction inside the narrow building.

The structure, also known as the Sam Kee Building, is a tourist attraction already, as it's just 4'11" wide. Located at 8 W Pender St., it's long been the home to Jack Chow Insurance.

However, it now houses a new attraction, a "pandamatronic habitat."

"The first and only Animatronic Giant Panda family outside of Asia is now welcoming visitors from inside the skinniest building in the world in Vancouver’s Chinatown," reads a press release from Rod Chow, son of Jack Chow.

Chow is a local magician and also the man behind the panda robots.

Dubbed the Jack Chow Giant Panda Habitat, there are six animatronic pandas in all, spread across four "habitats" in the building...which is also still an insurance office. In the habitats, the pandas are doing things like eating bamboo or playing a piano.

Tickets are being sold to visit the pandas and tour the building now. They start at $15 to see a panda in action and get a photo taken; at the upper end, there's a $25 ultimate experience which includes a meet-and-greet with the mechanical animals, a tour of the building, and a magic show.
