This forgotten Ryan Reynolds movie is a Halloween must watch

It's also directed by an award-winning author.

Before Ryan Reynolds was 'Deadpool' he starred in the horror comedy 'The Voices' which is perfect for a Halloween rewatch with friends.

Throwback to the some of the actor's pre-Deadpool films!

The most slept-on Ryan Reynolds movie role is arguably his 1996 appearance as Seth in the movie version of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. The film was a precursor to the popular TV show and Reynolds sported a 90s perfect heartthrob hairdo complete with frosted tips.

But that's not the movie we're talking about this Halloween.

The campy high school romp is a great Halloween re-watch but there's a more gruesome and surprisingly humorous role of Reynolds' that deserves a second look this spooky season.

The Voices is a dark horror comedy directed by Marjane Satrapi, the French-Iranian filmmaker and graphic novelist who gave the world Persepolis.

The movie was released in 2014, after The Proposal but before Deadpool skyrocketed Reynolds to Hollywood legend status. In it, he gives a standout performance as a factory worker in a 'devil versus angel on my shoulder' type scenario, except the respective moral compasses are voiced by his cat and dog.

Without giving too much away, expect murder, mayhem, and twisted humour as Reynolds' character struggles to keep his life together.

The movie wasn't a box office hit by any means but over the years critics have added it to their lists of underrated horror comedy films and come to appreciate Satrapi's off-kilter worldview.

Definitely, one to stick on with a group of friends in the lead-up to Halloween.

But here's a picture of Ryan Reynolds in Sabrina the Teenage Witch for good measure.
