CAN YOU EXPLAIN A BIT ABOUT CARTELERA ? AND WHO DO YOU ENJOY WORKING WITH IN VANCOUVER ?

I have been in Cartelera for almost a year now, Meghan Patterson referred me to Graeme Bergland for an interview. It is a really unique group of people, all super dedicated to their own mediums. Beyond my own hard work, I have seen almost every opportunity come out of the generous support of these studio-mates.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A PRACTICING ARTIST ? DID YOU GO TO SCHOOL AND WHERE ?

I have always painted. It became more concentrated when I took my BFA in Edmonton at the University of Alberta.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU WORKED IN VANCOUVER ?

I have been working in Vancouver for a year and a half. This city is perfect for art-making. Long periods of outdoor inspiration, combined with down seasons of dreary rain make ideal conditions for painting. Also, people seem really excited about art in Vancouver. Everyone has an artistic side project, it is really quite remarkable.

WHAT MEDIUMS DO YOU WORK IN ?

I mostly use acrylic paint. I am very messy.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE GROUP AND SOLO EXHIBITIONS THAT YOU HAVE BEEN APART OF ?

I just had my first solo show at Little Mountain Gallery, and now I am doing HERE IS NOW. After that, I am going to wait and see.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO DO YOUR WORK ?

Vancouver is beautiful. It is a thriving city hugged by an ocean and mountains. Waking up and going about my day, is incredibly inspiring.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON FOR THE FUTURE ?

I am currently working on Masters applications for fall 2010. I am dying for an excuse to intensively learn and do art full time again.
