Interested in borrowing a human this weekend?

It may sound extremely odd, but the Zee Zee Theatre and the Vancouver Public Library are lending human books at the Human Library on Saturday and Sunday.

Of course, this raises the question - what exactly is a human book?

Rather than borrowing a physical book, the event offers a candid 20-minute one-on-one conversation with a person. What's more, there are a variety of topics to choose from, and the human books are volunteers with personal experience with their topic.

The event also celebrates diversity and allows guests to hear real people share their honest stories as 'open books.' According to the organization, every human book represents a group in society that is often subjected to prejudice, stigmatization or discrimination because of their lifestyle, diagnosis, belief, disability, social status, ethnic origin, and so on.

The crucial takeaway? Don't judge a book by its cover.

The global movement began in 2000 and is represented in 80 countries worldwide. Human books are available on a first-come, first-served basis on Saturday, Sept. 7 and Sunday Sept. 8 from noon until 4 p.m.
