Vancity's nicest, Jaykin's been working on some new material and a free online project (not a mixtape yall) called Sneakers and Videogames. Check out the song below, a nice break from the beats in the beginning, just some rhymin and piano. You can also catch a sneak peak of some of the new material Monday night (Jul. 19) at Shine as ALife and Guu present Gangta Boogie Monday with a live performance from Jaykin, sets also from DJ Seko and DJ Wataru. Click under the cut to read more about the Sneakers and Videogames project and a clip of Jay freestyling with Chin Injeti.
From Jaykin on his new project:
"Sneakers and videogames is a free online project i'm doing. I don't want to call it a mixtape cause it's more than that what I'm going for. Electronic with funk and hiphop is all apart of it and heavily influenced by my life in Japan and Japanese people. Not being afraid to step out of my comfort zone and just doing what I like. The title came from when I was living in Japan. At that time I came home from work to my Tokyo box apartment and it was a mess. Only thing I could see on the floor was sneakers and videogames. U-Tern also had a big influence on this project by pushing to step out of the boombap rap faze and go a bit electronic funk like. Dj Seko had a big influence on the production on who to cater to
regarding the tempo I chose."
Freestyling with Chin:
"The song on stage was just all at the moment freestyling. First verse
was written and second was off the head. It was at Venue and the event was called For the Love of It. That was the last night for the event."
