The Vancouver Public Library is lending out dogs and poetry at an event this September.

The canine library is coming back to Vancouver, giving locals a chance to read their favourite passages to pooches in the park.

The event, run by the Vancouver Public Library, lets people check out dogs to read to at Trout Lake Park on Saturday, Sept. 9. People can sign up for 10-minute sessions with a dog and poetry of their choice.

"Poetry books from the VPL's collection will be available for you to choose from. There will also be a poetry workshop with the City of Vancouver's Poet Laureate, Fiona Tinwei Lam during the event," says the library on its page.

The library's BilblioBike will be on hand to sign people up for library cards, as well.

"This event will take place rain or shine because it is Vancouver after all," says the library. "The pup lineup will be announced as soon as they calm down from all of the excitement."

Among the event's organizers are Paws 4 Stories, which is part of the St. John Ambulance therapy dog program.
