Over the last 60 years, Neil Young has become one of the most popular and acclaimed Canadian rock musicians ever.
First finding fame as part of Buffalo Springfield, Young followed that up as part of the supergroup Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young alongside a solo career that's one of the most prolific ever.
Rolling Stone called him one of the top 30 guitarists of all time, he's had 21 albums and singles certified gold or platinum in the U.S., and he's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice (as a solo artist and as part of Buffalo Springfield). He even has an Order of Canada.
Among his most famous works are "Heart of Gold," "Old Man," and "Rockin' in the Free World."
Opening for the legendary singer-songwriter is Reverend Billy and the Stop Shopping Choir, a performance group based out of New York City.
The two shows will happen rain or shine.
Doors
The gates open up at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. each night.
Seating
Deer Lake is not a typical concert venue. Most days it's a local park. As such, it doesn't have reserved seating, or seating of any sort, actually.
That doesn't mean you can bring your own furniture.
"No lawn chairs of any design will be permitted on site. Blankets and legless camping chairs that sit flat on the ground are welcomed," reads a part of the TicketMaster page.
Tickets
Tickets for the Sept. 8 date have sold out, according to Ticketmaster, while the Sept. 6 show still has some, though they may sell out soon. Tickets via TicketMaster are $120 as the concerts are general admission.
Resale sites do appear to have some tickets, ranging around $150 to $170 for the cheapest options.
Transportation
There will be some alterations for fans getting to and from the park as there will be some road closures.
Deer Lake Avenue will be closed to all traffic between Deer Lake Parkway and Sperling Avenue from 4 to 9 p.m. on show evenings.
Transit users will be able to use several different bus routes to get to the park:
-
110 Lougheed Station/Metrotown Station
-
123 New West Station/Brentwood Station
-
129 Metrotown Station/Edmonds Station
-
136 Lougheed Station/Brentwood Station
-
144 SFU/Metrotown Station
There could be last-minute changes to the transit plan based on the RCMP's recommendations, according to the Deer Lake Park site. Currently, TransLink has no significant alerts issued for Saturday or Monday.
Bicycles will not be allowed in the venue; there are some racks near the East Gate entrance.
Neither Hullo nor TransLink have announced additional service for either of the concert nights.
Food and water
A free water station will be set up for people to fill water bottles. Each audience member is allowed one water bottle no more than 1L in size. Bottles must be soft plastic; no metal, glass, or hard plastic bottles will be allowed.
No outside food will be allowed, but several food trucks will be on hand with things like kettle corn, ice cream and poutine. There will be some vegetarian and vegan options.
Restrictions
The venue's bag policy allows bags up to a maximum of 12 inches by six inches by 12 inches. Exceptions may be made for certain essential bags like for medically necessary equipment.
There will be no coat or bag check at the venue.
