The PEAK Performance Project is a seven-year, 5.29 million dollar contest open to all musicians in British Columbia. The project was created by Vancouver's very own 100.5 The PEAK and Music BC to develop BC based emerging artists. |
Over the coming weeks we'll be introducing you to all of this year's participating artists with quick interviews about the project, the other artists, and a little bit of Vancouver! Vote now for your favourite top 19 at www.peakperformanceproject.com.
Next up is TÉA, a singer/songwriter from Vancouver. She’ll be playing The Cellar on October 22nd, and the only way to get into the showcase is by listening to 100.5 The Peak FM to win tickets! Limited tickets will also be released at the door.
Who's your favorite artist(s) in the Peak Performance Project and why?
Every artist in the Peak Performance Project is so talented and hard working, it mostly seems like a matter of taste and partial subjectivity to pick a favourite at this point. Having said this, I do pick Adrian Glynn for being able to completely captivate an audience with his voice and guitar alone, and for making me want to cry every time I hear 'Blue Belle'. I also pick TV Heart Attack for their hooky songs and Euro 80's meets New York style.
What was the most valuable thing you took away from Boot Camp?
It was beautiful to see that a community brought together by a competition could feel anything but competitive! Everyone's support, positivity, and creative spirit was very inspiring. Also, twitter really does work!
What is one thing you wish you brought to Boot Camp, but didn’t?
My pillow. Other than that, it was pretty much a perfect week - seminars about music in the day, playing and listening to music in the evening, three all-you-can-eat meals every day, free hot chocolate, and a heated pool! What more could a musician ask for?
What’s your favorite venue to play at in BC?
It WAS Richard's on Richards. Pretty sad that venue is gone. It was also the first club I got into with a fake ID when I was 15.
Where is your favourite hangout in Vancouver?
The Foundation Lounge on Main Street - great (and very affordable) vegeterian food, awesome music, and inspirational quotes on the walls! Oh, and it's open very late too.
If you win the grand prize, what are you going to put the money towards?
Shoes, shoes, shoes! Just kidding, of course. I released my EP 'Method to the Madness' in early 2008, so it's definitely time to record some new tracks. Promoting the new album and then supporting it by going on a national tour would also be high on the list.
