Terminal City Rollergirls' season championships are just around the corner (Sept. 10), so two of TCRG's house teams have invited some visitors to their turf on Saturday, August 13 to help them get warmed up.

First up, the undefeated Faster Pussycats are taking on the Kootenay Kannibelles, the all-star team assembled from all seven teams (from Salmo, Rossland, Castlegar, Nelson, Slocan Valley and Trail) that make up the West Kootenay Women's Roller Derby League. The Kanibelles have made an impressive showing in their very first season as a team – since their debut in March, they've only lost one game (by five points) out of seven they've played. They're rolling into town on a high after defeating the Reign Valley Vixens in June, and debuting on RollerGirl.ca Canadian Roller Derby Rankings at #6 among Canadian travel teams. A big weapon in their arsenal is jammer Beretta Lynch, #45, who was recently chosen to play for Team Canada at the very first roller derby world cup in December.

Not to worry though – the Faster Pussycats are proud of their own Team Canada inductee, perennial superstar EightMean Wheeler, and their spot at #4 among house teams in Canada. They're clawing their way past all opponents this season, with phenomenal jammer (and crowd fave) Amazombie, defensive stars PLAYER 1 and Mary Queen of Shotz, and versatile player Sissy Straight-edge leading the way. The Pussycats may have soft spots for small town girls, but they're not about to lose one of their nine lives to these mavens from the mountains.

To double your pleasure for the evening, the former-underdogs-turned-forces-of-nature Public Frenemy are welcoming the Hellbound Homewreckers from Tacoma's Dockyard Derby Dames league. While the hometown girls in green have been passing out victories at home, the Homewreckers recently claimed second place in their own championships season, which came as a surprise since the team has ranked fourth out of four two years in a row. Watch out for Frenemy jammers Pretty Painful and Didgeri Doom, plus surprise star Deathly Innocent, who posted 80 points of her own in Frenemy's recent upset of TCRG's 2010 champions The Bad Reputations. Big hits from PF blockers Ravishing Red Death, Buffy Sainte Fury, and Chic & Twisted are always expected on the track.

For the halftime action, don't miss the “Throw us Your Pie” charity pie-in-the-face fundraiser being hosted by the Bad Reputations. A silent auction will choose the lucky folks who get to toss a pie at the Bad Reps they love to hate the most! All proceeds are going to breast cancer charity Keep a Breast.

Advance tickets are available at Flaming Angels (4307 Main St.) or online at Brown Paper Tickets. Advance tickets are $15 for adults, and kids 6-12 are $10 (service charges may apply). Tickets at the door are $20 for adults, and kids prices are, yep, still $10. Kids five and under are always free!

Want the best seats in the house? For an extra $5 at the door, you can sit in the VIP Section with a great view of the track alongside some of your favorite TCRG players. All proceeds go to our featured charity of the month, Autism Speaks.

Doors open at 5pm and first whistle blows at 6pm at the fabulous Minoru Arena in Richmond, which is just steps away from the Brighouse Skytrain Station on the Canada Line. Do enjoy our beer garden, but don't drink and drive!
