The Winner Takes it All

I wrote about the Third Annual Vancouver Film Race and the mass screening of those films - almost 30! - at The Ridge Theatre a few weeks ago. Brave participants were given a mere 24 hours to create a short film incorporating the theme of "impossible" and an action of a "kiss" into their pieces. Over 330 attendees were at that screening - the amount of talent displayed from the hundreds of crew and cast in the room was incredible... not to mention inspiring (it's amazing what can happen in 24 hours if you put your mind to it!).

Judges Circle.

The organizers behind the 24 Hour Film Race in New York narrowed the films down to the top ten which were then judged at The Celluloid Social Club last week. I was both thrilled and honoured to be included as one of the ("celebrity guest") judges. Categories included best editing, director, cinematography, etc. - but of course the big prize is the one that gets the (entirely due) glory.

Winners Circle.

Combination, the team behind It's Hard to Live in the City, were awarded the top honour of Best Film. They will be representing Vancouver in the Final Grand Prix, where winners from over 20 cities across North America will compete for thousands of dollars in cash and prizes. Take a look at the other winners HERE.

The Celluloid Social Club had some great news too - after over a decade of Vancouver exclusivity, they are expanding to Toronto!

Future hosts of The Celluloid Social Club in Toronto - actor Kyle Labine and director Sophie Ann Rooney.

Congratulations to all the organizers, participants and to the winners on a great event and a fantastic night. Here's to It's Hard to Live in the City FTW!
