The music world is in shock today: Tom Petty, best known for his four decades as frontman to his band the Heartbreakers, is clinging to life, according to TMZ.

The 66-year-old was found unconscious in his California home Sunday night, and taken to hospital. Petty reportedly has no brain activity and a do not resuscitate order, however CBS News has since retracted their earlier confirmation that the singer had died.
Fans around the world are stunned by the news, particularly since Petty just came off a wildly successful North American tour which ended one week ago with a gig at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
That tour included an August 17 stop in Vancouver, where Petty and the Heartbreakers rocked Rogers Arena in a non-stop two-hour show.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers first played Vancouver on June 15, 1978, when they headlined the Commodore in support of their album "You're Gonna Get It!"
