Clockwise from top left: Linkin Park, Tia Wood, David Archuleta, Haim, Powerwolf, the Jonas Brothers, and badbadnotgood are all in Vancouver this September for live shows.

September is shaping up to be a big month when it comes to bands and solo acts taking the stage in Vancouver.

Concerts in the first fall month include a farewell tour by icons The Who, Linkin Park's first tour after Chester Bennington's death, and a visit from Swedish rockers The Hives.

For those who love pop music, the Jonas Brothers will celebrate 20 years with a stop at Rogers Arena, rising country-pop star Megan Moroney has a date at UBC, and the delightful David Archuleta is playing Hollywood (Theatre).

Anyone looking for something not in the mainstream can check out punk legends the Descendents and the Buzzcocks playing together, or Northern Cree and Tia Wood at the Chan Centre, or the multi-talented Patrick Wolf.

The end of September is particularly packed with good stuff, from Irish singer-songwriter Darren Kiely to longtime underground heroes Sparks to rising country-pop singer Megan Moroney.

Times listed are when the show is due to start.

Opening for the former Disney stars are Boys Like Girls, who've also been a band for 20 years. They're known for songs like "Love Drunk" and "Two is Better Than One," which featured Taylor Swift.

Linkin Park at Rogers Arena

One of the biggest groups of the 2000s, the alt-rock/nu metal band hasn't toured since lead singer Chester Bennington died in 2017. Now, with new singer Emily Armstrong in place and new material, the band is on its first tour in more than seven years.

The band will also be without two other founding members: lead guitarist Brad Delson (who still plays with the band but isn't touring) and drummer Rob Bourdon, who left the band during the hiatus after Bennington's death.

Opening for Linkin Park will be rapper JPEGMAFIA.

When: Sunday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Where: Rogers Arena - 800 Griffiths Way, Vancouver

Cost: Tickets start at $215. Buy tickets via Ticketmaster.

Northern Cree and Tia Wood at The Chan Centre

The finale concert for the Come Toward the Fire festival brings two notable First Nations acts. Powwow group Northern Cree has been keeping traditional songs alive for more than 40 years (and grabbed a Grammy nomination and Juno along the way).

The show will also feature Tia Wood, who's the daughter of Northern Cree's founder, and has launched her own career, mixing her Indigenous heritage with mainstream pop. Her work garnered her a Juno in Vancouver earlier this year for her debut EP, Pretty Red Bird.

When: Sunday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m.

Where: The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts - 6265 Crescent Rd, Vancouver

Cost: Tickets start at $30.

David Archuleta at Hollywood Theatre

Once a teenage competitor on Star Search and American Idol, Archuleta's music has transformed over the years. After the TV shows, he spent time as a missionary for the Mormon Church.

A decade later, he came out as queer and left the church, and just this summer he released an EP with the catchy "Crème Brulée."

Opening for Archuleta is Alexandra John, made up of twin siblings Liza and Weston Cain (children of Journey's Jonathan Cain).

When: Monday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m.

Where: Hollywood Theatre - 3123 W Broadway, Vancouver

Cost: Tickets start at $41.

The Who at Rogers Arena

The Who were one of the biggest and influential bands of the 20th century, considered one of the leaders of the British Invasion of the 1960s.

Now, 60 years later, the remaining members of the band (singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townshend) are on a farewell tour of North America.

Opening for the Brits is American rock band Candlebox.

When: Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 7:30 p.m.

Where: Rogers Arena - 800 Griffiths Way, Vancouver

Cost: Tickets start at $57. Buy tickets via Ticketmaster.

Darren Kiely at The Pearl

Sonically between Mumford and Sons and Ed Sheeran, Kiely began singing Irish folk tunes before writing his own material. His songs are focused on his voice and an acoustic guitar, but bring in a full band.

Opening for Kiely is fellow Irishman Ryan McMullan, who also follows the singer-songwriter with an acoustic guitar model.

When: Thursday, Sept. 25, at 8:30 p.m.

Where: The Pearl - 881 Granville St.

Cost: Tickets start at $35.
