For 25 years the Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA) has been helping local cats find homes.
Currently, they rescue around 1,400 cats each year. To support their work, they're holding a fundraiser walk at Jericho Beach on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025, with the goal of raising $250,000.
"While we celebrate this anniversary, we’re also facing one of the most difficult years in our history," reads the event's webpage. "With the rising cost of vet care, medical emergencies, and skyrocketing operational expenses, the financial strain on our rescue has never been heavier."
The event is based around a 5 km walk at the beach, with activities before and after, including a raffle, photo booths and more cat-themed fun. Participants also get a VOKRA t-shirt.
Registration is $50. VOKRA is also encouraging participants to raise funds in their community with individual goals of $250 to reach the overall goal.
