If you were to create a Venn diagram where one circle was labeled "cheap" and the other labeled "awesome", the middle point where they cross over could be labeled "Vancouver on the Cheap". In other words, this is a weekly series on things to do and places to go in Vancouver that fall into that magical category of being both cheap and awesome. |
A couple of years ago, the brilliant folks behind The Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret created an show called the Hard Times Hit Parade. It was a sort of roving, immersive, theatre-dance experience that captured the hearts of all who saw it (or heard about it and were really upset they couldn't make it out to see it). The kids are at it again with a new show: The Scarlet Queen of Mercy. This time it's a 1950s-style musical extravaganza featuring vintage chorus lines, heartthrobs, and original music and film gear, all in living technicolour! Regular tickets are over $20, but the first 50 people to hit up their preview can get in by donation! Of course, if you're up for splurging a bit, the $35 VIP Cabaret seats come with a bottle of wine for the table, which sounds pretty swell to me.
