There's nothing like the scent of freshly-baked breads and treats to inspire appetites and more. Now Vancouver's Commercial Drive will have a new destination for all things baked, thanks to the addition of The Bench Bakehouse.

Operated by Tracy Steele and Matt Steele, The Bench Bakehouse will be located in Il Mercato at the corner of East 1st Avenue on The Drive.
Focusing on naturally-leavened artisan breads and French-style pastries, the Steeles' first venture in the biz punctuates the turn in their lives that turned a hobby into a way of life. Tracy and Matt both left their jobs to travel Europe and to study pastry in Paris.
Back in Vancouver, the baking duo have been a presence at local artisanal market events, and have been doing weekly orders online for their growing business.
Now they are pleased to share what they've learned and what they do with everyone, and have carried that sentiment to the design of their bakeshop, which is open concept with some seating.
The Bench Bakehouse will use fresh, high-quality ingredients, preparing everything onsite and from scratch. On the menu will be a variety of
traditional and savoury sourdough breads, 100% butter croissants, morning buns, seasonal fruit tarts and daily sandwiches on fresh house-made bread.
With plans to open later this year, The Bench Bakehouse can definitely tempt tastebuds with their Instagram images of what they're baking up as they prep to launch:
