A Vancouver spot specializing in Russian dumplings - pelmeni - is closing its doors for good on Monday, Feb. 1.

Hey Dumplings! opened in 2018 at 208 Keefer St in Chinatown. The small, eclectic no-frills spot offered some limited seating for enjoying dumplings on the spot, as well as take-out and frozen packaged dumplings.

"Thank you everyone, it has truly been a joy meeting all of you. It’s not the end for Hey, Dumplings! just an opportunity for a new beginning," says Hey Dumplings! an Instagram post announcing the closure. "Be good to each other," adds the owner.

While Hey Dumplings! was perhaps off the radar of many, the shop had a loyal following of dumpling-lovers, and even captured the attention of the Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards; in 2019 Hey Dumplings! received an Honourable Mention in the awards' "Best Casual" category.

The Hey Dumplings! menu centred on pelmeni, available with meat or potato (vegan) filling, available dished up in a number of ways with sauces and toppings. Customers could tuck into paper containers of hot pelmeni tossed in butter with sour cream, poutine-style, or with sauces like pesto, ginger scallion, or creamy dill.

You could order up a juicy dill pickle on the side, and then save room for Hey Dumplings! berry pelmeni for dessert.

Hopefully we will see those tasty pelmeni again soon.
