When American burger chain Johnny Rockets left western Canada, it left an empty storefront on Oak Street in Fairview.
After more than two years, that space has finally been filled; it's now a Wendy's.
The world's third-largest burger-based fast-food chain now has a location at 2538 Oak St., near the intersection with Broadway. The new location is open from 6:30 a.m. to midnight daily.
The new Wendy's is the chain's fourth location in the city of Vancouver; while there are only three others in the city, the Oak and Broadway outpost is located only about 850 metres away from another at Cambie and Broadway. In the same area as the two Wendy's there are also three A&Ws (each less than 500 metres from the next), a McDonald's and a Fatburger.
Once the new Broadway extension to the SkyTrain is finished, the new Wendy's will be one of the closest quick-service restaurants to the Oak-VGH station.
It's not all big chains there, though; Wendy's neighbour is Dalina, a Vancouver café that also operates a similar space over on Main Street in Chinatown.
In the immediate vicinity are serveral other independent restaurants, like Tozen Sushi, John 3:16 Malaysian, and Japanese BBQ spot Homura Yakiniku, among many more.
Where Wendy's is now was previously one of Johnny Rockets' last outposts in Western Canada until it closed suddenly in the summer of 2022. That location was quietly closed along with three others in B.C. when the chain pulled out of the province.
Afterwards, some lamented the closure of Johnny Rockets online, as it was near the hospital, and some would go to the modern-styled diner to get a milkshake after good news.
