Right now, Murmur, a new restaurant in Mount Pleasant, offers breakfast, lunch, dinner, and ugly views.
Passing by the location at 235 E Broadway, it may look like the recently opened restaurant is under renovation, but that's the exterior.
Inside, the renovations are done, and the new Vancouver restaurant has just completed its first dinner service. It has been open for breakfast and lunch previously.
In social media posts, management acknowledges the view of the scaffolding outside.
"It's not ugly inside," reads one post.
Open from 7 a.m. on weekdays, the new restaurant offers breakfast options, lunches, and has just started Sunday roasts on certain nights (a schedule is on its website).
It opens at 10 a.m. on weekends, and closes at 2 p.m. every day of the week.
The daytime menu includes donuts, sausage rolls and hand pies for snacks, while for lunch there are sandwiches with European inspiration like Welsh rarebit and Jambon-Beurre (ham and butter) alongside larger mains like Chicken Adobo.
Owner James Romanchuk says Murmur is a bit of everything.
"Our menu will consist of some breads and bowls, none of which is tied to a specific cuisine," he writes in an email to V.I.A. "We want to emphasize that we want to have something for whatever the craving may be, whether it be classic and simple waffle, or a hot and soothing chicken adobo bowl."
Currently, Murmur is in a soft opening phase. Regular dinner service is planned for the future.
"Nostalgia, comfort, and a little bit of eccentricity about sums us up," writes Romanchuk.
