Food truck festivals are still happening even during the COVID-19 pandemic, though they aren't going to be as originally planned.

The Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival has re-tooled their events to suit the current restrictions on gatherings and physical distancing.

One of their refreshed events starts Saturday, June 20 in Burnaby, and will continue all summer.

“We invite you to experience the new reality when it comes to food truck festivals in an innovative and creative way,” said a news release.

Structured as a "take-out" event, the first installation will take place in Burnaby’s Brentwood area at 2150 Alpha Avenue. The event will run bi-weekly throughout the summer, from June 20 to September 26 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

There will be free admission, “safe” live music, and more vendors are to come as each week progresses. The event organizers will be allowing 50 people in at a time in an open area with social distancing and guidelines implemented.

“The goal is to spread positivity and be adaptive while complying with the new health restrictions put into place,” said a news release. “The Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival wants to have a strong bond of community in Burnaby, and bring joy to individuals while experiencing the new normal of food truck festivals.”

Additionally, the Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival is offering another modified style of event in Langley, Abbotsford, and Chilliwack starting this month. In those cities, they will be offering a "drive-thru" food truck event. Details for each of those events are available via the Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival site.
