'We have some bittersweet news': East Vancouver Chinese restaurant closed after 31 years

"Please accept our deepest gratitude for your unwavering support"
Grand View Restaurant is closing after more than 30 years of serving Chinese food in East Vancouver.

After more than 30 years serving Szechuan food in East Vancouver, the Grand View Restaurant at 4181 Fraser St has closed.

A note on the restaurant's website explains the owners are ready for retirement.

"We have some bittersweet news to share with you," reads the note. "After 31 wonderful years serving our community, we have decided to retire by March 31."

After initially planning to close up March 31, Grand View stayed open one more day, serving up meals on April 1 to "accommodate our wonderful customers who can not make it during the long weekend," according to the restaurant owners.

"Please accept our deepest gratitude for your unwavering support throughout the years," reads the note, from Debbie and the whole staff. "Your patronage has meant the world to us, and we are incredibly grateful for the memories and the relationships we've built together."

Grand View offered an extensive menu including barbecued duck, mu shu and a separate vegetarian menu.

The space won't be empty long.

"While it's hard to say goodbye, we are excited to introduce you to the new restaurant," reads the note."Tasty Planet Indian Restaurant [...] will be carrying on our legacy."

The Burnaby-based Tasty Planet has announced it's opening up a secondary location in Vancouver, though it hasn't confirmed where.
