There's a new religion-themed bar and restaurant open in Vancouver

Saying a "Hail Mary" might be the usual domain of Catholics in search of some divine intercession, but for Vancouverites, Hail Mary's also happens to be a new restaurant and bar on the city's east side.

Saying a "Hail Mary" might be the usual domain of Catholics in search of some divine intercession, but for Vancouverites, Hail Mary's also happens to be a new restaurant and bar on the city's east side.

This religion-themed haunt, located at 670 East Broadway, debuted in mid-July, and is open daily for Happy Hour, dinner, and drinks.

"Pursue ye Sins, Imbibe without Judgement," reads the restaurant's tagline on their Instagram page.

The project is the work of local restaurant biz vets Haley White and Mike Zalman--Zalman is also the guy behind the funky and irreverent Slickity Jim's, too.

While the decor may feel overwhelmingly Italian Renaissance, the menu is more global-casual. Moroccan Spiced Beef Brochette, Korean BBQ Chicken Lettuce Wraps, and Nachos are among the selection of appies, burgers, and main dishes from the menu that also features elevated pub fare like deep fried avocado, burgers, mac and cheese, and a Nashville-style hot chicken sandwich.

Over on the drinks menu, things get a little more cheeky, with drinks named "Penance," "Bleeding Hearts, and "The Holy Grail," along with a line-up of cocktails inspired by and named for the seven deadly sins. Sloth, by the way, is a can of PBR and a shot of Jameson on the side, you lazy bum.

Restaurants and food shops with eyebrow-raising names and themes seems to be par for the course these days in Vancouver, as Hail Mary's joins the ranks of the controversial Escobar, the saucy Perverted Ice Cream, and the upcoming Burnaby location of Toronto-based Sweet Jesus (also an ice cream shop).

Hail Mary's is located at 670 East Broadway in Vancouver.
