'It has been a difficult 48 hours for us': Downtown Vancouver oyster bar closing permanently after nearly a decade

"It is something we knew could happen, however, it still comes as a shock."

For fans of oysters in Coal Harbour, this might be a tough one to swallow.

Chewies Oyster Bar has announced it will be closing its West Hastings spot at the end of April due to its lease for the restaurant's location.

"We have been notified that we have 60 days to vacate the premises," states a social media post from the seafood spot. "It is something we knew could happen, however, it still comes as a shock."

The location has been open since late 2013.

The company shared the news shortly after receiving confirmation themselves.

"It has been a difficult 48 hours for us," they note online, adding that it will be business as usual at the Coal Harbour location until further notice.

"And you can GUARANTEE we are going to throw one hell of a goodbye shaker to wrap up the end of an era."

The location was the second Chewies Oyster Bar; the original shellfish-specializing spot in Kitsilano remains open. Both Chewies Oyster Bar and Chewies Biscuit Co are from Richard Chew; he opened the Kitsilano oyster bar in 2011 and the biscuit spot in 2018.
