Longtime downtown Vancouver Chinese restaurant closes after more than 30 years

It was tucked away in a downtown Vancouver mall

For more than 30 years the Victoria Chinese Restaurant served dim sum, lo mein, pot stickers and more in Downtown Vancouver.

That ended earlier this month.

"We regret to announce the closing of Victoria Chinese Restaurant on Aug. 1, 2025," reads a sign at the restaurant.

The Victoria Chinese Restaurant was located inside in the Royal Centre at 1055 W Georgia (though the restaurant was located on the Melville Street side of the building near the Hyatt Hotel).

The restaurant had been a long-time tenant of the shopping mall inside the downtown Vancouver tower, which has also been known as the RBC Tower or Royal Bank Tower. The tower, which is more than 50 years old, was briefly the tallest building in Vancouver in the 1970s.

Opening in the early 1990s, Victoria Chinese Restaurant was in Vancouver 33 years, according to the sign on the door.

"Known for its long history of Chinese cuisine, the restaurant is renowned for its authentic Hong Kong style dim sum and seafood dishes," reads the now closed restaurant's website.

Over the years it faced a variety of issues, including a long closure after a fire in 2013.
