New School beer will help support hospitality workers and an award for women entering brewing.

After a rough 19 months, B.C.'s hospitality industry could use a beer.

And so a team of brewers have gotten together to make that happen.

Alumni from Kwantlen Polytechnic University's (KPU) legendary brewing program worked with Langley's Dead Frog Brewery to create New School Dry-Hopped Märzen, a collaboration that also included the BC Craft Brewers Guild. The new beer is being brewed as part of BC Craft Beer Month, the annual celebration through October of beers in B.C.

"Proceeds of the sale of the New School Dry-Hopped Märzen will benefit the BC Hospitality Foundation and the Nancy More Award, which helps female or underrepresented students begin their careers in the craft brewing industry," states a press release about the new beer.

The BC Hospitality Foundation raises funds to help people in the hospitality industry dealing with financial hardships.

"Each year many hospitality workers across BC face financial challenges because of a health condition to themselves or a family member and have nowhere else to turn. The BCHF helps them when all other options have been exhausted," states the organization's website.

The Nancy More Award is a new award given by the foundation and guild.

Märzens are a type of German lager; they used to be brewed in March (in German March is März). This one is described as a crisp, copper lager with rich malt and a citrus flavour coming from Mandarina Bavaria hops.

The New School Dry-Hopped Märzen will be on sale soon around Vancouver and B.C. in October, but first there's a launch party at Dead Frog.

"This is a single batch brew that’s available for a limited time only! Come on by for the launch party Saturday, October 2, enjoy a fresh pint of the New School Dry-Hopped Märzen, and meet some of the alumni that brewed the beer," they write on their website.

There'll also be a short presentation at noon to officially launch the beer. Dead Frog's tasting room is at #105-8860 201 St. in Langley.
