Foret Noire is a French cafe specializing in pastries like cakes, croissants, macarons, and much more. They are opening a second location in Vancouver.

For the past few years, Robson Street has become Vancouver's little Paris. What was once the destination for fashion-forward retail therapy has become a beacon for all things gastronomical, as French treats dominate the shopping strip, with places like Ladurée and Paul.

Soon, Robson Street will have another modern French cafe, and this time it's Vancouver's own Foret Noire. The patisserie, which launched in 2018 on Broadway east of Cambie, is planning to open its second location at 1126 Robson St, in what had previously been a GNC supplement shop.

"We are a modern version of a French café, redesigned to cater to the most discerning of taste buds," describes Foret Noire on its website.

"All of our creations are truly unique, and we regularly update our range with seasonal influences to take advantage of what nature does best and use the freshest ingredients available," adds the cafe.

Those creations include macarons, danish, croissant, "cruffins" (a croissant-muffin hybrid), and chocolates. Foret Noire also makes full-sized cakes in a wide-array of styles and flavours, including ones just for "romance and love," as well as the holidays, like Christmas Buche de Noel cakes. Additionally, Foret Noire makes towers out of macarons or a traditional French croquembouche, which is a cone-shaped tower of choux pastry puffs (a three-foot croquembouche will set you back $700, by the way).

Foret Noire also serves cafe fare, like sandwiches, and has a full beverage menu of hot and cold drinks.

We don't know just yet what's in store for Foret Noire's Robson outpost and an opening day has not yet been set. You can visit their original cafe at 236 W Broadway and follow them on Instagram at @foretnoirecafe
