The Nook team just opened their sleekest restaurant yet—here’s what to know

Three years in the making, the award-winning Vancouver Italian chain is finally welcoming guests in The Stack building.

Have you ever waited three years for a restaurant to open? That’s how long it’s been since the team behind Vancouver’s beloved Italian eatery Nook announced their new location in Coal Harbour.

The just-opened fifth Nook restaurant is at the base of The Stack building at 1155 Melville. The interior is spacious, modern, and stylish, with a central bar and sidewalk patio that gives the whole space an indoor-outdoor feel.

Menu items only available at Coal Harbour

While the menu includes many of the Nook staples diners have come to love, there are some unique offerings and twists here that you won't find at their other locations.

A meal highlight right out the gate was the hamachi crudo, dressed with calamansi vinegar—a smart, subtle pairing that complemented rather than competed with the delicate fish.

Their Caesar salad was garlicky and ultra-creamy, topped with little cheese crispies that offered a nice textural twist. It's a crouton-heavy dish and I do wish I'd thought to ask for a few grinds of fresh black pepper.

I opted for a classic no-tomato pizza with spinach, olives, garlic, and lemony ricotta, which has challenged my loyalty to my go-to, the Anchovy pizza at Nook Olympic Village.

Pasta made fresh daily for Nook

Even with five locations, Nook continues to make all their own pasta, which is done centrally out of their sibling restaurant, Radish. Their pappardelle, from the fresh sheet, was rustic and hearty, served with a wine-forward veal ragù that was deeply flavourful and super tender. I'll eat pasta any time of year, but this dish screams comfy cold weather fare, so put a pin in that one if you can wait for fall or winter.

The real standout, however, was the ribeye, which was on the feature menu. Nook custom butchers the cut to remove excess gristle, and the result is a steak so tender you could nearly slice it with a fork. The ruby slices are topped with peppery arugula, B.C. cherry tomatoes, balsamic jus, and shavings of Grana Padano for a salty, earthy bite.

For dessert, the tiramisu was textbook perfect, and the pistachio crema with passionfruit was a bright and creamy finish.

Nook also pours a selection of Italian wines exclusive to their restaurants, which make ideal companions for the meal.

Nook began as a single 30-seat West End restaurant in spring 2009. In the ensuing years, Nook has expanded, adding locations in Kitsilano, Olympic Village, and North Vancouver's Shipyards. Earlier this year, Nook was named Best Chain in the 2025 Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards.

Additionally, Nook's sibling operations include seafood restaurant Oddfish and the aforementioned Radish, both in Kits.

While this location isn’t in my neighbourhood, I kind of wish it was. And if you happened to catch me lip-synching to every single '80s hit on the playlist…no you didn’t.

Nook Coal Harbour is open Sunday to Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
