After nearly five years, Vancouver’s beloved Asian-French pastry shop Remi Patisserie is closing its doors.

Following his announcement last year of the bakery’s impending closure, pastry chef and owner Remi Ho shared the shop’s final service date in an Instagram post on Friday, July 18.

“Today our buyer just dropped off the deposit. We are inching away from completing the sale of our bakery” writes Ho.

Ho adds that he believes there is a "90 per cent chance" the shop's final day of business will be October 12.

Known for its Asian-influenced French pastries, Remi Patisserie first began as a pop-up in 2019, operating out shared spaces in local coffee shops. In 2020, Ho moved into his own small storefront, transforming a compact 525 sq. ft. cake decorating studio into a bustling dessert shop.

From matcha mochi eclairs to crispy salted yolk financiers, Ho’s pastries effortlessly blends Asian flavours with French techniques. In his latest update, Ho announced that he plans on passing on these techniques to a new group of bakers in the second half of October.

Ho previously shared that his decision to shut down the business is so that he can focus on creating a happy life with his loved one, and move to Japan with her.

In the announcement’s closing paragraph, Ho reflects on the opportunities that Remi Patisserie has granted him and hints at the possibility of future ventures.

“I have learned so much throughout these years and I hope I can be better and do better on the next venture,” he writes. “I have more to say but I’ll leave it for the next post.”

For those planning a final visit, Remi Patisserie is located at 511 W 7th Ave and is open Wednesday to Friday from noon to 6 p.m. Pre-ordering from the website is recommended.
