A 'Secret Snack Society' is launching in Vancouver for night owls

"We're really looking to bring good food for anyone who likes a meal in the middle of the night."

Ever had the midnight munchies?

The Secret Snack Society is offering a new menu for those looking for a late-night nibble in western Vancouver neighbourhoods.

"We're really looking to bring good food for anyone who likes a meal in the middle of the night," says Rahul Kumar, owner of the Secret Snack Society.

Kumar also owns Karma Indian Bistro in Kitsilano; his new enterprise will operate out of the same kitchen, but with a different menu and, importantly, different hours.

"It's a totally different concept, with a different menu," he says. "It's catered towards late-night snack food."

"If you walk past our store you won't know there's anything at night," he adds.

The options will be heavily inspired by Indian street food, which means quick service (ready in 12 minutes or less) for delivery (or pick up). That includes everything from wings to pakoras to masala Maggi noodles.

"We want to put items on the menu that are easy to execute and get to the customer quickly," Kumar says.

One item Kumar says will be a highlight for Vancouver are the tandoori chicken and paneer rolls.

"We're not really able to find them in Vancouver," he says. "Sometimes Surrey."

With a delivery area focused on UBC, Kitsilano, and downtown, Kumar says they're hoping to give students and others a late-night option in a market filled with places like McDonald's and Tim Hortons.

The Secret Snack Society will be running Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. starting Feb. 3; a menu will be released soon, and plans are for it to be on Doordash, Uber Eats, and Skip the Dishes. If it proves successful, Kumar says weeknights will be added.
