Cocktails, left, and garlic basil naan, right, are on the menu at Karma Indian Bistro, which just opened on West 4th in Kitsilano.

Kitsilano is now home to a new Indian restaurant. Karma Indian Bistro is described as a "casual bistro" with cocktails and happy hour specials to boot.

Karma is located at 2741 W 4th Ave. The address has seen a bit of turnover since spring 2019, when the popular Oakwood Canadian Bistro closed after an eight-year run. Pre-pandemic, the space belonged to a spot called Beehive for a couple of years, and, prior to Karma, had a short run as Maya, an Indian restaurant.

The first restaurant for its owners, Karma Indian Bistro offers a menu that "focuses on fusion and authentic dishes as well," manager Rahul Kumar tells V.I.A. in an email.

In the kitchen, a chef with 25 years of cooking experience from India, Germany and Canada. Must-tries, we're told, include Lamb Briyani, Chilli Chicken, and Butter Chicken with Garlic Basil Naan.

Karma is also focused on its drinks program, with happy hour from 3 to 5 p.m.

"Our appetizers are meant for sharing with friends and family over our cocktails (our Mumbai Mule and Chai Negroni are really good) and drinks menu," Kumar explains.

"We would like to invite everyone for good cocktails, delicious food and awesome vibes," adds the manager.

Karma Indian Bistro is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Follow them on Instagram @karmaindianbistro.
