Jesus has gone back to Toronto.

No, not that Jesus – this is Sweet Jesus, the controversial Toronto-based ice cream shop that expanded into Metro Vancouver with an outpost at Burnaby's Metrotown mall.

The local Sweet Jesus shop has shut its doors, less than a year after it opened.

Their insane creations were something to behold (and to eat). Colourful and delightfully sweet, Sweet Jesus seemed to draw a crowd of people just looking at their creations.

The chain, which is operated by parent restaurant group Monarchs & Misfits, has been steadily expanding in and out of Toronto.

Known for their irreverent style (the name has been hard for some to swallow) as much as their outrageous ice cream treats, the soft serve shop is a beloved spot for treat-seekers and Instagrammers.

But not for Burnaby; Sweet Jesus closed up shop for good in Metrotown this September.
