Five years ago, Torafuku opened its doors on Main Street in Vancouver, becoming one of the city's most successful food truck to bricks-and-mortar transitions in the biz. What began at the vibrant and exciting Le Tigre food truck morphed into the more sophisticated Pan-Asian Torafuku (which means "lucky tiger"), the modern sit-down spot.

While there have been numerous changes to the restaurant over the years - including shifts in the team behind the scenes and at the stoves, the permanent hiatus of the original Le Tigre food truck, and all the demands of the COVID-era - Torafuku has remained steadily focused on delivering fun, delicious, creative, and inspired fare.

To mark their fifth anniversary, Executive Chef and Owner Steve Kuan has come up with an exciting special menu that can be enjoyed for dine-in or take-out.

Available in a multi-course "omakase" style experience or a la carte, the celebratory menu is making the most of sensational summer produce, like juicy B.C. tomatoes and cherries. Dishes include tender grilled octopus served with chimichurri, wakame salad and pickled watermelon rind or roasted duck with housemade bao buns you build yourself, adding supple slices of duck with sauce and bright greens; the duck dish is also served with a rich foie gras parfait, which really vaults the meal into special occasion territory.

Among the desserts is a silky smooth and creamy Basque cheesecake with a B.C. blueberry compote to end the meal on a sweet note.

The anniversary menu launched August 7 and is available on Friday and Saturday nights through August. The omakase is seven courses and is $50 per person with a two person minimum, and all the dishes are available a la carte.

If you'd prefer to dine at home, Torafuku now has two new dinner sets available for to-go orders: the Duck Set for Two ($80) and the Short Rib Set for Two ($85). These four-course packages feature two shared appetizers, a main and dessert. Items are those from the celebratory omakase menu that are best suited for takeout. Takeaway is available to purchase through the website and Tock.

Other specials at Torafuku right now include new cocktails and an expanded Happy Hour, now happening 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. from Tuesday to Saturday.

Torafuku is located at 958 Main Street in Vancouver
