Pokey Okey is pivoting one of its former locations and opening up Pokey Okey Shkudo.

After shutting down two of its three locations earlier this year, a Vancouver poké shop is opening a new location with a new angle.

Pokey Okey is opening Pokey Okey Shokudo at 2421 Kingsway, near Nanaimo Street, with a menu that includes poké dishes from its previous locations as well as Japanese diner-style menu items. It'll include katsu curry, karage don, and aburi mentaiko gyudon.

The new restaurant space also has a unique vibe, with one wall covered in anime characters.

"The decor was handcrafted by Chef Jonathan Watanabe and showcases Japanese culture in a 'cyberpunk' style," reads an email from Pokey Okey.

Pokey Okey Shokudo will have its grand opening Friday, May 9, 2025.

Pokey Okey shuttered its Burnaby location on Kingsway and its original Richmond location in February 2025. A location in downtown Vancouver, at 995 Hornby St., remains open.

In 2023 Pokey Okey teamed up with another local chef to open Don restaurant in Vancouver. Don at Kitsilano is an upscale table service restaurant featuring a menu of Asian-meets-Western fare, such as seafood congee pot pie, lobster bisque udon, and several popular brunch dishes.

The new restaurant moved in to the space left by O'Pizza, which was only on Kingsway a short time.
