From a tiny downtown spot turning out Lebanese flatbreads to one of the city's oldest diners tucked away in a lumber yard, 11 restaurants in Vancouver have earned a place on a list of fan-favourite spots for a meal.
Every year, user-generated review platform Yelp puts out its ranking of the Top 100 Places to Eat in Canada.
For 2024, Manoush'eh took the highest spot for Vancouver, coming in third. Opened in 2017 and named for Lebanon's classic "pie," this family-run eatery cranks out hand-formed dough used as a base for anything as basic as some zesty za'atar or with all the meats and veggies, oven-fired, and served hot and fresh.
Manoush'eh is no stranger to the list, ranking high last year and in previous years; it has also landed on Yelp's list of the best places to eat in Vancouver.
Also representing Vancouver in the top 20 are downtown sandwich spot Number E Food (12), South Vancouver's not-so-hidden-anymore gem Northern Cafe & Grill (14), and Tom Sushi (17). Another seven spots from Vancouver are included as well (full list below).
Outside of Vancouver itself, Richmond's Lamajoun (24) and Anar Persian Cuisine (87) made the list, as did North Vancouver's Pawans Indian Kitchen (23), Workshop Vegetarian Cafe (27), and Tour De Feast (94).
Annual list focuses on 'quirky, interesting, and unique' restaurants
Here's how Yelp comes up with the "Top 100" list: "To determine Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat in 2024, Yelp’s data science team starts by using the data generated from our community submissions," explains a media release.
"From the candidate restaurants, we narrow the list down with the expertise of our community managers and Trend Expert to curate a list as quirky, interesting, and unique as the Yelp Community itself. If a business with multiple locations appears more than once on the list, we keep the highest-ranked location," explains Yelp.
