Sala Thai is closing after almost 40 years on Burrard Street in downtown Vancouver.

After 38 years, one of downtown Vancouver's older Asian restaurants is closing permanently.

Sala Thai has announced that as of April 28 it'll be "closed for good." During its almost four decades serving traditional Thai cuisine it has been run by Joy and Sam Kongsilp and their family.

"For our family, Sala Thai has been more than just a restaurant – it’s been a labour of love, a dream realized, and a cherished part of our family’s journey," reads a post on Instagram.

"Being the first ever Thai-owned and operated restaurant in Vancouver, our family poured our hearts and souls into every aspect of Sala Thai for the better part of our lives."

Sala Thai first opened its doors in 1986 on Cambie Street, before moving to 888 Burrard St. where it's currently located.

While the longtime restaurant is closing, there may be more Sala Thai food in the future.

"Though this chapter may be closing, this is not goodbye," writes the restaurant's management on Instagram, adding "we look forward to seeing you all again at some capacity in the future."

However, for fans of the restaurant, April 28 will be the end.

"We want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support over the years and we hope to see you one last time before we close our doors," reads Sala Thai's website.
