A Delta man is now in custody after smashing and throwing things inside a Richmond McDonald's over an order mix-up.

A Delta man got violent, smashing over display cases and throwing a trash can at staff, at a Richmond McDonald’s when his order was mixed up.

In a video by Kate Rebel and posted on TikTok, a customer is seen shoving and smashing glass dividers and display cases after he was told he would not be served for allegedly knocking over a hand sanitizer stand on purpose.

Rebel, who witnessed the exchange, explained in a separate video that the guy originally wanted to order a “four-piece chicken nugget happy meal” but McDonald’s staff typed the order in wrong as four orders of happy meals.

“He started freaking out and swearing,” said Rebel, adding that the man then knocked over the hand sanitizer stand and walked to the side to “wait for his order.”

When staff told the customer he was not going to be served for his behaviour, he replied he was “waiting for his food” that he paid for.

When staff said they would be refunding his money and contacting the police, the man turned violent.

In the video, the man can be heard saying something obscene to the staff, then is seen smashing the glass dividers, knocking over equipment and the display case, as well as throwing a trash can at the staff.

Richmond RCMP officers were called to the scene where they approached the suspect.

According to police, the suspect is a 30-year-old Delta man and fought with the officers during his arrest.

Two restaurant employees and two police officers were allegedly assaulted and sustained minor injuries during the incident.

“He is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing and faces possible charges of mischief (over $5,000), assault and assault peace officer,” said Richmond RCMP in a media statement.

Cpl. Ian Henderson, spokesperson with the Richmond RCMP, said the investigation is still on-going and “it would be inappropriate to speak to this apparent evidence (video) at this time.”

Rebel who remained inside the restaurant applauded the way staff handled the situation.

“They all handed the situation extremely well. They had a garbage can thrown at them, the guy was screaming profanity,” said Rebel.

Witnesses of this incident are asked to contact the Richmond RCMP directly at 604-278-1212 quoting file number 2021-20311 or anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
