Where to get perfectly polished manicures for New Year's Eve and holiday parties in Vancouver.

"All year long we have clients requesting nail art when they book in for their services," says the owner of Onyx Aesthetics Studio in Vancouver, Linda Trang Ly.

According to Ly, nail art has been growing in popularity year over year and she predicts it will probably continue to grow. Ly calls the next-level manicure "a form of self-care."

"It adds a little more happiness to each client in their own way," she says. "This last year, we have been doing so many different kinds of nail art. Hand-drawn detailed nail art like happy faces and swirls have been on repeat throughout the year."

For the holiday season, however, most people are favouring reds, greens and glitter shades, which Ly says is pretty traditional for this time of the year. In terms of nail art, she says "Snowflakes, velvet nails and gems have been a hit this year."

Holiday nails are all about timing, too. Do you want them to be fresh for Christmas through to New Year's Eve or would you prefer to have them redone in between?

"Some clients will make sure their nails are fresh for Christmas and some choose to wait until closer to the new year for their personal celebrations," says Ly.

At Varnish Nails and Beauty in Yaletown, owner Linh Khu says she is seeing a "balance of Christmas-themed nail art, along with cool seasonal colours and classic reds."

"If clients come before New Year's, they usually go back to normal if they already had Christmas nails. Usually, clients get one of the two styles depending on their preferred celebration," she continues. "For nail art, we mostly get requests for accent nails or different styles of french tips. This year, chrome has been very trendy."

Here is some inspiration and ideas for holiday nails based on the trends we're seeing in Vancouver.
