Lethbridge resident Brent Holm won $500,000 on a lottery ticket he bought in Vancouver.

A man from Lethbridge, Alberta, just had a very worthwhile trip to Vancouver.

Brent Holm was visiting the city around New Year when he stopped by the Esso station on Southwest Marine Drive and 70th Avenue, according to the BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC).

While there, he bought a Lotto Max ticket, along with the Extra, for the Jan. 2, 2024, draw. It turns out that saying "Yes" to the Extra worked out for him; he won $500,000.

“I was at the purchase location when I found out I won,” recalls Holm in a press release. “I had scanned a few tickets and tried to keep quiet while I was in the store!”

He was able to keep his secret for a little while, but he's collected his winnings, so the word is out. He's now looking forward to using his windfall.

“I have a light mindset," Holm says. "This gives me a bit more room to spend on things!”

Those things include new tires for his truck and more travel in general.

The Extra draw's top prize is $500,000; a ticket has to have all four numbers correct.

Overall in 2023 people who bought tickets in B.C. won more than $250 million on the Lotto Max and Extra.
