Metro Vancouver Transit Police announced Tuesday the arrest of a 32-year-old Vancouver resident for his role in an alleged stabbing that followed a fight outside a SkyTrain station.

The incident unfolded at around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 18 when two men exited the Commercial-Broadway SkyTrain Station. When one man seemed to make a comment about the other, the two men became engaged in a verbal confrontation.

During the confrontation, Sukbinder Singh Sogy, 32, allegedly produced a box-cutter knife and "waved it around in a violent slashing motion and struck the victim multiple times on the gloves he was wearing," according to Transit Police.

The victim also received a "non-life-threatening laceration to his chest" during the altercation.

The altercation was witnessed by Transit Security Officers, who directed the suspect to drop his weapon. Once he did, they were able to handcuff him and he was turned over to Transit Police.

The suspect, Sogy, has been charged with Assault with a Weapon. Sogy has "minimal police history," and has been released from custody with a number of conditions, including not to have contact with the victim and not to possess knives or weapons.

Sogy is expected in court on August 18, 2020.
