Deflated: Why The Big Bounce had to bounce from its Vancouver event

Organizers blame "unnecessary and unrealistic demands" of local safety agency

Crews are cleaning up Concord Pacific Place in downtown Vancouver after The Big Bounce Canada cancelled its Vancouver dates.

The Big Bounce is a touring attraction with five inflatables for adults and kids to play on. Essentially, it's a massive travelling bouncy castle; they even advertise themselves as "world's biggest bouncy castle."

The inflatable event was supposed to run over the last two weekends of August, but was shut down on Aug. 23 by Technical Safety B.C. (TSBC).

Big Bounce Vancouver shut down for safety concerns

"On August 23, 2025, we became aware that the Big Bounce Canada event was open to the public and operating all five inflatables, despite not meeting any of the identified safety or operating requirements, putting attendees at risk," reads an email to V.I.A. from TSBC.

"Upon learning of the unsafe, illegal operation of these inflatables on August 23, Technical Safety BC took immediate action."

In response, organizers of the event took to Facebook to share their position.

"Unfortunately, Technical Safety BC adopted a different position from all the other regional authorities, requesting last-minute changes to the exact same operating program and schedule of attractions that had run without issue across seven other Canadian cities," reads a post from the Big Bounce Canada on the now cancelled Facebook event pages.

"These unnecessary and unrealistic demands made the event unviable, and we subsequently took the difficult decision to cancel."

The Vancouver dates were the last of the season for Big Bounce Canada.

What is TSBC?

TSBC is an independent agency that oversees regulated equipment and systems in British Columbia. This includes everything from the SkyTrain to ziplines to boilers.

They have a provincial mandate for their work, but are funded by industry, according to their website.

In the case of Big Bounce Canada, TSBC inspected the inflatables when they were set up on Aug. 21 and 22.

Conflict over inflatables

In its email to V.I.A., the TSBC states they found several issues that could have been a risk to participants.

"Examples of the safety hazards that required attention included large holes, use of unapproved blowers, and inadequate anchoring," they describe.

According to the safety agency, organizers told TSBC they'd fix the issues on Aug. 22. On Aug. 23, the Big Bounce Canada opened to the public. TSBC says none of the issues had been addressed by opening.

TSBC staff went to the site and ordered the event shut down.

"The delivery of the compliance order was supported by the Vancouver Police Department due to the lack of cooperation from the operator and the seriousness of the safety concerns," reads the email from TSBC.

What's happening with the Big Bounce Canada Vancouver event now?

While the TSBC says it was willing to work with the Big Bounce Canada on a re-inspection, the attraction operator is cleaning up the site. The inflatables are already gone.

"All affected ticket holders will be refunded to their original method of payment. Please note that refunds can take up to 10 business days to process," reads the Big Bounce Canada's Facebook post.

The Big Bounce Canada had three more dates upcoming, Aug. 29 to 31.

"We’re sorry that British Columbia was the only region that didn’t get to experience this amazing event, and we hope to see you again soon!" reads the Big Bounce Canada post.
