A cougar was seen in the southern section of Bert Flinn Park, according to a tweet from the City of Port Moody.
The city says the cougar did not show signs of aggressive behaviour and made an effort to avoid human interaction.
People trekking through the area are advised to stay alert, keep children near and keep dogs leashed.

Safety tips:
If you encounter a cougar stay calm, pick up children immediately and back away slowly giving the animal space to escape.
Make yourself as large as possible, don't run or turn your back on the animal and sudden movement could provoke an attack.
If a cougar follows you respond aggressively, maintaining eye contact and making loud noise. Arm yourself with rocks or sticks to use as weapons.
If the cougar attacks fight back focusing on the cougars face and eyes to convince it that you are a threat and are not prey.
