The city is warning about a parking ticket scam in Vancouver involving text messages.

The City of Vancouver is alerting locals about a scam using text messages.

"We have been notified of a scam targeting people through text messages requesting they pay an overdue parking ticket. This is not the city," says the city in a social media post.

They caution people not to click the link in the message.

They shared a version of the text message scammers have sent. It claims to be from the city and says the recipient of the message is responsible for an overdue infraction and includes a link to what appears to be a parking website associated with the city.

"We do not notify the public of fines through texting, media, or social media," the city states.

The only way people will receive tickets from the city is via the mail or on the vehicle itself. People are able to pay their tickets and see photos of tickets issued on the city's website.
