Downtown Vancouver restaurant specializing in fun bento boxes permanently closes

It quietly shut down on St. Patrick's Day

People in the Downtown core have one fewer place to go for bento boxes, donburi and noodles now.

Bentoya, the Japanese lunch and dinner eatery at the corner of Richards and Robson, has closed for good.

In a note on the door, the owners thank the community for their support.

"It has been a pleasure to serve this community," they write in the note. "We want to thank you for your support and loyalty over the past 10 years."

While Bentoya first opened up in 2019, the location was home to the very similar GyuDonYa, which specialized in Japanese rice bowls. It, and the recognizable awning, showed up in the spot around 2010.

Bentoya ownership did not elaborate on the restaurant's closure on social media; its only official account has been quiet for a couple of years.
