A driver was charged for impaired driving for the fourth time after a motor vehicle incident, say Vancouver Police.
VPD Department Traffic Unit Sgt. Mark Christensen took to Twitter Monday (Aug. 16) to share an image of a damaged Ford. He writes that the motor vehicle incident occurred at 6:30 a.m. Sunday and "luckily no one was hurt."
The driver blew 210 and 190 and was charged for impaired driving. Christensen notes that this was the fourth time that the driver had been charged, adding, "This needs to stop!"
Impaired driving in B.C.
According to ICBC, 67 people die in crashes involving impairing driving every year in B.C. Most of these deaths happen in the summer months and during the December holidays.
B.C. has the toughest drinking and driving laws in Canada. If you’re caught driving impaired, you could face these penalties:
- Driving suspensions from 24 hours to 90 days
- Vehicle impoundment
- Fines, from $600 and up to $4,060
- Jail time
- Mandatory rehabilitation
- Installation of ignition interlock in your vehicle
Getting home safe is a shared responsibility. Take your turn being the designated driver – your friends and family will thank you. If no one is able to be a designated driver, there are still plenty of options for you to get home. Leave your car overnight and consider taking a taxi, transit, using a ride-hailing service, or calling a friend.
ICBC underscores: "When you drink and drive, you not only risk your life but those of others on the road. With so many options to get home safely, there is no excuse to drive while impaired."
