Restrictions are scheduled to come into effect at a popular Squamish park that's seen its fair share of illegal parking as of recent.

Starting Labour Day weekend, vehicles parked illegally in Porteau Cove Provincial Park – whether along the Sea-to-Sky Highway or in day-use zones – will be towed at the owner’s expense.

That's according to the BC Parks system, which announced Friday that the enforcement will ensure easy access for marine rescues.

A high number of visitors at Porteau Cove during the COVID-19 pandemic has blocked "critical" emergency access routes, according to a news release.

BC Parks said parking space for emergency vehicles must always be available considering Howe Sound is a popular spot for divers.

RCMP officers will assist with enforcement along the highway.
