A 27-year-old man has been arrested after a 23-year-old man died of stab wounds.

A 23-year-old man has died after being stabbed in the early hours of June 5.

Police were called to the scene of an assault on Bruce Street, a street running parallel to Victoria Drive between East 41 Avenue and Kingsway, around 3 a.m. Sunday.

"On arrival, officers discovered a 23-year-old man badly injured outside the house. The man later died from his injuries," say police in a press release.

27-year-old Alexander Trimble was arrested at the scene and remains in custody, they add.

BC Prosecution Service approved one count of second-degree murder against Trimble in connection with the death of 23-year-old Zachary Trimble.

Police note the men knew each other, but don't elaborate in the release. It was the city's sixth homicide of 2022.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the VPD's major crimes unit at 1-604-717-2500.
