A 34-year-old man is recovering after being stabbed multiple times in the neck this weekend by a stranger.
According to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) the victim, a wheelchair user, was west of the intersection of Hastings and Carrall Streets in the DTES when the attack happened, around 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24.
While there, he was approached by a stranger, a 32-year-old man, who subsequently stabbed him in the neck multiple times.
"At this time we believe the attack was unprovoked," VPD spokesperson Steve Addison tells V.I.A.
Police have not shared what sort of weapon was used.
"The suspect, a high-risk dangerous offender, tried to run away but was quickly arrested by VPD officers who were patrolling the area," state police in a Tweet.
Other officers helped the victim, Addison notes. The victim is currently recovering from non-life-threatening injuries after the attack.
"The suspect was taken to jail by VPD. He was then released from custody on an undertaking to appear in court in July. Charges have not been formally laid by the courts," states Addison.
