Our Social Fabric's new scholarship program called Sew Fun(d) will provide three selected students across the Lower Mainland with their own brand new sewing machines in 2023.

Three Metro Vancouver students will be awarded a free sewing machine at the start of the new year.

Vancouver-based deadstock fabric and supplies store Our Social Fabric launched a scholarship program this month that aims to remove the cost barrier of acquiring a sewing machine for aspiring designers and sewists.

The program, named Sew Fun(d), will provide three selected students across the Lower Mainland with their own Janome 2030QDC sewing machine in January, 2023.

In order to apply, recipients must be students enrolled in a secondary school located in the Lower Mainland and must be passionate about sewing and the fibre arts.

Students can nominate themselves or a peer, or teachers can nominate a student.

"This round we are giving away three machines but this is just the start and we have plans to grow our scholarship program in 2023,” says Sew Fun(d) coordinator MaryAn Webb.

Applications for Sew Fun(d) will close at midnight on Dec. 20 and those selected will be notified on Dec. 25.
